Veggie Mijxs DC is a collective that creates a safe space for folks with marginalized identities who advocate for food sovereignty, animal rights, and over wellbeing. Our collective focuses on building community within the DMV with organizers from each part of the metro access states.

Suhey
She/Her
Suhey (pronounced sue-hey) was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona where she studied Transborder Chican@/Latin@ Studies and Sustainability at Arizona State University. She became vegetarian in 2016 and now lives a plant-based lifestyle. Her passions consist of community-focused work advocating for environmental justice and diversity and inclusion in outdoor spaces. As an organizer for the DC Chapter, she's excited to build community with our members! In her free time, she enjoys cooking plant-based recipes, doing 1,000 piece puzzles, and reading. -
Ladonna Winnegan
She/Her
Ladonna Winnegan was born and raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia and North Carolina. She decided to go vegan in June 2018 on a whim and it became one of the best decisions she's made. Ladonna became an organizer for Veggie Mijas in March 2023 after moving to the DC metro area and wanting to become more involved in it's veggie BIPOC community. In addition to being an oraganizer, Ladonna is a Social Worker and School-Based Mental Health Therapist in DC. -
Mela Guerrero

Mela (Melanie) Guerrero was born and rised in Langley Park, MD but has grown up all over the DMV. Melanie graduated with a Political Science degree from McDaniel College but shortly after graduating became hyper focused on agriculture and food systems. She know helps to manage a 1 acre farm in SE D.C that leverages POC education on culturally appropriate food, food access, and urban spaces for POC communities. Besides being excited on being a DC Chapter co- organizer, Melanie is always on hikes, finding ways to travel out west, walking with her dog, Benito, and becoming even more obsess with fruits and vegetables. -
Kayla Roberson
They/She
Kayla is Dallas, Texas born and raised and is now a DC based coorganizer of the DC Chapter of Veggie Mijas. They went vegetarian in 2016 and then decided to go vegan soon after. This decision boosted thier interest in food and environmental justice for BIPOC communities, leading them to find and join Veggie Mijas. Outside of Veggie Mijas, Kayla enjoys baking vegan treats, running around DC trails and caring for their many plants.
